Cape Town is synonymous with lovely long stretches of soft, white sand and was recently voted one of the best beach cities in the world. If rollicking in the surf or languishing on the beach with a good book is your idea of rest and relaxation, then you are sure to discover at least one Cape Town beach to suits you. Whether it is the hustle and bustle of the family beaches on the False Bay coastline, where the water temperatures are a little warmer, or the ultra-trendy beaches of the Atlantic Seaboard, where flocks of bikini girls trip their wares, Cape Town really has ideal locations. Llandudno Beach One of the little gems often overlooked for the more chic Clifton collection is the picturesque Llandudno beach. It is about 15 minutes out of the city centre on the Atlantic Seaboard and forms the focal point of one of Cape Town’s most sought after suburbs, Llandudno. The beach is nestled between flanks of rock on either side that form a tiny bay of sorts and, when the wind is blowing in the right direction, offers some of the very best surfing and body boarding. It is also a treasured venue of the locals, who flock to the rocks most evenings to enjoy a tipple or two at sunset. For the more adventurous, the pounding waves have created all sorts of interesting caverns and hidey-holes filled with the booty of the ocean. The real estate that clings to the hillside of this extraordinary beach paradise is some of the most valuable in the Cape and virtually every single property has mind blowing vistas of both the emerald blue bay and the tempestuous ocean beyond. Hout Bay Beach Once you have discovered the riches of Llandudno, venture a little further along the coast and you will reach the stunning little village of Hout Bay and its small, yet incredibly colourful harbour where fishing boasts in all the various guises of blues, reds and yellows are reflected on the sparkling Ocean for all to admire. Once a premier fishing locale but now more of a tourist Mecca, Hout Bay’s beach effectively runs from the harbour on one flank to the cliffs of Chapman’s Peak on the other. Wind breaks have been erected all along the length of the beach in an effort to protect you from the mauling south-easter wind, but on a windless day it is perfection itself. Multitudes of windsurfers and paddle skiers use this Cape Town beach all the way through the year and it is a firm favourite with those who love loping along the sand.
